The Republic of Tatarstan is located in central European Russia in the East European Plain. It is part of the Volga Federal District. It is bordered by Kirov oblast, Ulyanovsk oblast, Samara oblast, Orenburg oblast, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Mari El Republic, the Chuvash Republic and the Udmurt Republic.

Administrative center – Kazan.
Area – the 44th place among the subjects of the Russian Federation.
Population – the 8th place among the subjects of the Russian Federation.
